JEFF COELHO TO RETURN TO RADIO AND ASSIST WITH HANNEMANN CAMPAIGN
Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced that Jeff Coelho, his executive advisor and director of the Department of Customer Services, will be leaving the administration to take over management of the Salem Communications radio group, which operates Oldies 107.9 and The Jewel 99.5, among other AM and FM stations.
Coelho was in broadcasting for 40 years, beginning as a deejay with KPOI radio in the 1960s while still a student at Farrington High School, and progressing to his management of Visionary Related Entertainment, which operated radio stations KUMU AM/FM, KPOI FM, KQMQ FM and KDDB FM. He is credited with creating “Brown Bags to Stardom.”
Coelho joined the Hannemann administration in February 2005.
Mayor Hannemann said, “Jeff has been more than a trusted advisor and key member of the administration; he’s been a loyal and steadfast friend who has stood by me through thick and thin over the years. Not only has he made outstanding contributions as the head of customer services, but his advice on public policy issues as my executive advisor, relations with the City Council, and representation of the administration in the community have been stellar and unimpeachable.
“Fortunately, Jeff will continue to assist the Hannemann team by helping to run my reelection campaign this year. I’m looking forward to benefiting from his counsel and media savvy in the weeks to come, and to enjoying our long friendship.”
Jeff Coelho said, “While I will no longer be a member of the mayor’s cabinet, rest assured that I will continue to support him. This change allows me to work with some great broadcast stations while taking an active role in my friend Mufi’s campaign this year and in the years to come.”
Coelho begins his new duties on June 25.
