MAYOR HANNEMANN ANNOUNCES TWO CABINET APPOINTMENTS Mayor Mufi Hannemann today named new directors for two city departments: Budget and Fiscal Services, and Planning and Permitting. Hannemann nominated Rix Maurer III as director of Budget and Fiscal Services. Maurer brings a wealth of important financial experience to the city team, and will replace outgoing director Mary Pat Waterhouse, who is transferring to the private sector. Maurer currently serves as Vice President for Financial Services and Treasurer for The Queen’s “With the tight budget situation the city is facing, I wanted to reach out and hire one of the most experienced financial officers around,” Hannemann said. “He will bring fresh ideas to help with our budget, and will be an excellent addition to our team.” Hannemann nominated David Tanoue as director of Planning and Permitting, where he has served as deputy director for the past four years. Tanoue is regarded as an excellent administrator and will replace Director Henry Eng, who is retiring. Tanoue is originally from “David is very sharp and is well-regarded by everyone at Honolulu Hale,” Hannemann said. “He has done an excellent job helping to streamline the city’s building permit process and has taken on many other important responsibilities. He is definitely up to the task.” Hannemann thanked Waterhouse and Eng for all their hard work over the past four years. “They have both done great work, and will be sorely missed,” Hannemann said.
