Oahu Workforce Investment Board Sponsors Career Day at Roosevelt High School
The Oahu Workforce Investment Board (OWIB) is sponsoring a Career Day event at Roosevelt High School for their 400 junior students on Monday, May 19 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. The purpose of this Career Day event is to expose students to a variety of careers or job industries with the intent of fostering greater interest and involvement in their academic studies, extracurricular activities, and/or personal development with a career goal in mind.
The OWIB is housed in the Department of Community Services of the City and County of Honolulu and includes 36 members appointed by Mayor Mufi Hannemann. OWIB was created in response to the passage of the federal 1998 Workforce Investment Act. The act mandates the establishment of training and employment programs designed to meet the needs of local businesses and jobseekers including those who want to further their careers. OWIB is responsible for the development of a local strategic workforce investment plan for the City and County of Honolulu. Jim Tollefson, President of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, is OWIB’s Chair.
