ENV RESPONDS TO SEWAGE SPILL IN MANOA

Crews from the Department of Environmental Services (ENV) responded to a sewage spill this morning in Manoa.

The Honolulu Police Department called in the incident at 8:47 a.m.  The ENV crew arrived at the site at 9:31 a.m. and released the blockage by 10:06 a.m.

The sewage came from a manhole fronting 3234 Woodlawn Drive as roots clogged an 8-inch VCP pipe causing 1,600 gallons to escape and enter a storm drain leading to Manoa Stream.

The crew cleaned and deodorized the affected area and dispatched a separate crew with special cutters to extract the intruding roots from the affected pipe. 

The Department of Health has been notified.  ENV’s Environmental Quality division will post signs in the area and take water samples.
