TIGER CUBS ON DISPLAY AND HONOLULU ZOO DIRECTOR NAMED

Three recently-born Sumatran tiger cubs made their public debut at the Honolulu Zoo today.

The three are boys, and have been named Malosi, Keahi and Tondi.  They were born September 15th. Since that time, the cubs have been in the care of their mother, Chrissie,  and zoo keepers.

"We are happy to give this early Christmas present to the people of Honolulu and visitors to our city," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann.  "The three boys are growing quickly, and I want to encourage people to come down and visit them up close and in person as soon as possible."

Mayor Hannemann also announced that Stephen Walker will become the Director of the Honolulu Zoo early next month.  Walker is currently the Director of the Tulsa Zoo in Oklahoma.  He will succeed Ken Redman, who retired as Zoo Director earlier this year.

"We had 30 applicants for the Honolulu Zoo Director position, and that was very encouraging,"  said Director of Department of Services Sidney Quintal.  "Steve Walker stood out in the areas of knowledge, experience, and most of all, the ability to manage.  In short, he is well-qualified to take over the day-to-day operations of the Honolulu Zoo and help us move ahead with our mission and vision."

Walker is expected in Honolulu the first week in January.
