ONE WAHIAWA WWTP UV UNIT DOWN 15 MINUTES

A Hawaiian Electric (HECO) power outage shut down one of the two active ultraviolet disinfection units at the City's Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Plant this morning for 15 minutes.

The UV unit was inoperable from 11:38 a.m. to 11:53 a.m. because of the electrical outage, but the outage did not affect the second UV unit.

The plant discharged 14,126 gallons of treated and partially disinfected effluent into the Wahiawa Reservoir through its deep outfall. 

The City notified the DOH and warning signs will be posted.  DOH has waived sampling at this time due to the turbidity of the reservoir from last week's storm.
