WAIMANALO SIDEWALK PROJECT TO BEGIN

            Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced the City will begin construction of a sidewalk on Hihimanu Street in Waimanalo.  The sidewalk will run from Kakaina Street to the Ahiki Street entrance to Waimanalo District Park, a length of 3,000 feet.

            Construction work begins on Monday, April 14.  The project is being funded completely with Federal Lands Highway money.

            Mayor Hannemann said, “I am happy to initiate this need-to-have project for Waimanalo.  Senator Daniel Inouye secured the federal money, and we’re very grateful to him for helping us to implement this safety improvement.”

            The work, which is expected be completed around November this year, will include the construction of an ADA-compliant concrete sidewalk, curb, and gutter on the makai side of Hihimanu Street.  Also included will be embankment and grade adjustment walls at the back of the sidewalk, adjustments to manhole covers and fire hydrants to match the surface elevation of the new sidewalks, and installation of handrails along the existing drainage channel for pedestrian safety.

The contractor is Integrated Construction.  Design consultant is R.M. Towill.  The Department of Design and Construction will provide inspection of the project improvements with construction support services from TM Designers. 

The project will cost $1,042,335.
