Department of Emergency Management statement on passing of longtime Emergency Management Reserve Corps District Coordinator Bruce Eguires

Emergency Management Reserve Corps District Coordinator and dedicated volunteer Mr. Bruce Eguires passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009.

Eguires, who had been with the Department of Emergency Management (formerly the Oahu Civil Defense Agency) for more than 30-years, was responsible for coordinating volunteer activities in support of City emergency and community response operations on the Windward coast from Hanauma Bay to Ka’a’awa.

“Bruce Eguires was an outstanding volunteer who didn’t hesitate in storms, floods, and hurricanes to protect his community and his Windward ‘ohana. He will be sorely missed,” said Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

“Everyone in Windward Oahu slept soundly every night, knowing that Uncle Bruce was vigilantly guarding their safety,” said Peter Hirai, deputy director for the Department of Emergency Management.  “The department, our volunteers and our Civil Defense Advisory Commissioners offer their sincerest condolences to the Eguires family”.
