SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR MAYOR’S TREE TOPPING CEREMONY ON THE EVE OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF HONOLULU CITY LIGHTS

(Thursday, December 3, 2009) – Mayor Mufi Hannemann will grow taller on the eve of the 25th anniversary celebrations for Honolulu City Lights.  With the help of a cherry picker, the mayor will soar into the sky to cap the City’s Christmas tree on the front lawn of Honolulu Hale during the annual tree topping ceremony on Friday, December 4, 2009, at 2:00 p.m.

Thanks to the generosity of the Co-Cathedral of Saint Theresa Church on 712 North School Street in Honolulu, the 50-foot Norfolk pine stands tall for Christmas enthusiasts to enjoy amidst the thousands of lights and larger-than-life displays surrounding Honolulu Hale.

For more information on the Honolulu City Lights Silver Jubilee celebrations and the tree lighting ceremony that will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 6 p.m., contact Joan Manke at 768-3720.  The media can make parking arrangements for the annual tree topping ceremony by calling Gail Haraguchi, director, Department of Customer Services at 265-9523.
