CITY SQUARE SATELLITE CITY HALL AND DRIVER LICENSE OFFICES CLOSED The Kalihi/Kapalama Satellite City Hall and the Driver License Office at City Square are closed today (May 22) due to a nuisance odor. The driver’s license bureau is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, May 26 with limited services that include road tests for those who have appointments, financial responsibility and taxi cab operator transactions. Both offices are tentatively scheduled to reopen with full services on Wednesday, May 27. The building, located at 1199 Dillingham Boulevard, was vacated on May 14 due to a complaint of an unknown odor and remained closed on May 15. The State Office of Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response reported that the odor is from napthalene (medium-grade fuel oil), a petroleum product. A contractor working in the area is responsible for the odor. It is being treated as a nuisance rather than a health hazard, as there is no direct threat; however, workers and customers exposed to the odor have experienced headaches and nausea. Air quality samples will be taken next week prior to determining the reopening of the facility. The Department of Customer Services’ Director Dana Takahara-Dias said, “We regret having to close these facilities again. We know that this is a major inconvenience but the welfare of our workers and customers continues to be our main priority.” Takahara-Dias said that satellite city hall services can be accomplished at nine other locations: Ala Moana, All other driver licensing services and walk-ins for road testing are being redirected to the following alternate locations: FULL-SERVICE DRIVER LICENSE FACILITIES:
