Scheduled construction for week beginning March 23, 2009 for the Department of Design & Construction, Civil Division (Construction Management Branch), & Wastewater Division (Construction Management Branch).  Roadwork is normally done between the hours of 8:30 AM & 3:30 PM unless otherwise noted.

AIEA

Kaamilo Ditch Repair

Work includes:  demolishing and removing existing rock walls, trees; constructing new reinforced concrete channel; installing new 4’-0” chain link fence; providing reinforced concrete jacket for existing 8-inch sewer.

HALAWA

Aliipoe Ditch Reconstruction – Halawa Heights, Lalawai Drive and Kahema Place area:

Demolish, remove and reconstruct existing concrete drainage ditch.  Construct maintenance access ramp and driveway.  Install storm drain manholes, drain inlets, trench drain, and 18” drain pipes.  Install new chain link fence.

Work includes removal and reconstruction of damaged concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter areas; trimming of trees and cutting, removal of tree roots where the roots have damaged the

areas; installing root barriers where required, and adjustment of utility boxes to new sidewalk grades, and other incidental related work.

Kalihi Nuuanu Area Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 1E:

New sewer line and manhole installation on Vineyard Blvd., Malanai Lane, School Street and Stillman Lane.  Lane closures Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Kapiolani Area Revised Sewer System Improvements:

New sewer line, CIPP lining, and manhole installation on Kalauokalani, Kona Street, Atkinson Drive, and Ala Moana Blvd.  Sewerwork is ongoing on Kalauokalani.  One lane will be closed Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Nuhelewai Stream Improvements

Project includes:  demolishing and removing existing rock walls and trees; constructing new concrete channels, retaining walls and grouted rubble paved work; installing 6-foot-high chain link fence; and installing permanent erosion control.

Peterson Lane and Pua Lane Sewer Rehabilitation:

New sewer line and manhole installation on King Street (between Dillingham Blvd. and Peterson Lane), Pua Lane and Peterson Lane.  Sewerwork is ongoing on Pua Lane.  Repaving of King, Peterson and Pua lane to follow after sewer work is complete.  Pua Lane – One lane in mauka bound direction will be closed Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

CONSTRUCTION SUSPENDED ~ REVISING CURB AND PAVING PLAN

Reconstruction of Lusitana Street – From Pauoa Avenue to Iolani Avenue

The work includes the reconstruction and resurfacing of the above street; construction of concrete bus landings; curb ramps and associated traffic signal improvements; reconstruction of curbs, gutters and driveways; installation of pavement markings, adjustment of utility covers to grade; tree trimming and root pruning.

            (Estimated completion date, September 2009)

Rehabilitation of Various Streets on Oahu:  Road work on Pauoa Avenue will resume on March 23, 2009.  Permits from the State DOT is being obtained for work under the Pali Highway.  Work will commence from Lusitana headed towards Nuuanu Avenue.

Rehabilitation of Street, Unit 38 – Kilauea Avenue from Hunakai Street (Mauka of H-1) to 18^th Avenue

The work includes the reconstruction and resurfacing of the above street; construction of concrete bus pads; curb ramps and associated traffic signal improvements; reconstruction of curbs, gutters and driveways; installation of pavement markings, adjustment of utility covers to grade; tree trimming and root pruning.

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 49 – Alewa Drive:   Rehabilitation of Alewa Drive from Wyllie Street to Hoomaikai Street: Work includes removal of existing asphalt concrete and Portland cement concrete pavements, roadway reconstruction with asphalt concrete pavement, reconstruction of existing asphalt concrete berms and concrete gutters, adjustment of utility manhole frames and covers, and installation of pavement markings, and other incidental related work.

Saint Louis Heights Sewer Rehabilitation:

Installation of cured in place pipe (CIPP), manhole rehabilitation, lateral rehabilitation, and pipe bursting throughout Saint Louis Heights.

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 42 – Kainehe Street (Kihapai Street to Kailua Road) and Hamakua Drive (Kailua Road to Keolu Drive):

Paving, traffic signal upgrades, adjustment utility manholes frames and covers to grade, vehicle detector loops and pavement markings complete.  Installation of, traffic signs, bridge deck joints and deficiency require intermittent lane closures and punchlist.

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 46 – Kailua Road (Hamakua Bridge to Kuulei Road); and Kuulei Road (Kailua Road to Kainalu Drive):  Notice to Proceed March 9, 2009.

Kaneohe Bay Drive Trunk Sewer Reconstruction

Installation of new sewer lines, new manholes, and cured in place pipe (CIPP).  Work will occur on Kaneohe Bay Drive between Mokapu Road and Kuono Place, Kaimalu Place and Way, Ikeanani Drive, and Kuakoa Place.

KAPOLEI

Extension of Kapolei Parkway, Phase 8B (North-South Road to Renton Road):

Clearing, grubbing and mass grading for construction of new 6-lane wide roadway with bike lane, raised median strips, sewer, water, drainage, street lighting and traffic signal systems, fences, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and subdrains, irrigation and landscaping, pavement markings and traffic signs.  Installation of erosion controls and dust fences throughout the project.

Ewa Villages, Extension of Kapolei Parkway, Phase 8C (Renton Road to Kolowaka Street)

Work includes Civil, Structural, Electrical and Landscape work to complete the extension of Kapolei Parkway from Renton Road to Kolowaka Street.

Renton Road Sewer and Manhole Rehabilitation

Trenching across Fort Barrette Road at Roosevelt Avenue starting February 17, 2009.  One lane of traffic will be open during the trenching.  Steel plates will be put down after the trenching to allow normal traffic movement.  Two months later the contractor will restore the trench and repave.  Total work duration in the area will be from February 17, 2009 to April 17, 2009.

University Avenue/Maile Way Retaining Wall Repair

Demolish and reconstruct existing retaining wall including new railings.  Replace affected sidewalks, curbs, gutters and asphalt pavement.  Construct new wheelchair ramps, install new crosswalks, replace street markings, signs and traffic signals. Adjust utility frames and covers; manhole frames and covers; and utility boxes to new finish grade.

Seismic Retrofit Of City Bridges, Pelekane Drive Bridge Over Nuuanu Stream (Bridge No. 267)

Work involves installation of concrete shear keys, dowels for shear keys and girder strengthening for Pelekane Drive bridge.  Bridge repairs will be provided for the spalled areas along the girders, bottom of bridge slab and sidewalk, corroded rebars along the bridge bottom slab and shear cracks along the girders.  BMP measures and traffic controls will be installed.

Reconstruction of Concrete Sidewalks, Moanalua Road and Kaahumanu Street:

Reconstruct sidewalks, driveways, curbs, gutters and AC pavement.  Adjust utility boxes to new sidewalk grade.  Tree trimming, root pruning, installing root barriers and removal of trees where required.

Work substantially completed on November 1, 2007. Contractor needs to complete internal punchlist items.  Awaiting Surety Company contractor to complete the work.

SALT LAKE

Bridge Rehabilitation, Salt Lake Boulevard Bridge Over Halawa Stream:

Repair cracks at bridge abutments, girders and deck.  Provide concrete in-fill with reinforcing steel and install steel hangers and reinforce fabric material for strengthening the bridge girders.

Provide bridge deck restoration for installation of steel hanger assembly (Change Order work). 

All Contract work described above was substantially completed on January 28, 2009.  Pre-final inspection was conducted on February 19, 2009. Contractor completing cleanup work.
