MAYOR HANNEMANN APPLAUDS $1 MILLION JOB TRAINING GRANT

Tuesday, June 2, 2009—Mayor Hannemann today thanked U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye for his assistance in securing a $1 million grant for the City from the U.S. Department of Labor to help underprivileged young parents obtain education and job training.

“We work very hard to help young people prepare to enter the workforce, and this grant will significantly enhance our efforts,” Mayor Hannemann said. “It is very important that people have meaningful opportunities to support their families and become self-sufficient.”

The grant will provide job training for mothers, expectant mothers, and fathers ages 16 to 24, and will be linked to support services such as child care, transportation and health care.
