NEIGHBORHOOD BOARD CANDIDATE PROFILES AND PHOTOS

The Neighborhood Commission Office today announced that candidate profiles and photos are available on the City website for the public to review in advance of board elections in May. The information is posted at http://www.honolulu.gov/nco/2009canpro.htm

“The City strives to keep voters informed, and the NCO has posted information about Neighborhood Board elections online since 2007,” Mayor Hannemann said. “My administration also supports the City Council’s plan for online voting in this year’s election, so it is important that candidate information be available online as well.”

A total of 414 candidates are running in May for 445 seats on Oahu’s 33 Neighborhood Boards. There are multiple candidates for some seats, but no candidates for others.

Neighborhood Boards are comprised of volunteers who hold monthly meetings and serve as advisors on community concerns.

The Neighborhood Board system was created in 1973 to increase and assure effective citizen participation in government decision-making.
