Tuesday, June 3, 2009 – Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced today the continuation of the City’s Neuter Now program.  The City and County of Honolulu in partnership with the Hawaiian Humane Society offers the reduced-rate certificates at all satellite city halls.

“This is an essential program that reduces our island pet population and provides reasonable cost options for this valuable service,” said Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

The spay/neuter program includes 40 participating veterinarians from 18 clinics throughout the island.  The vets voluntarily perform the surgeries at significantly reduced rates, resulting in tremendous savings to owners while addressing pet overpopulation on Oahu. The public can purchase sterilization certificates at any satellite city hall or from the Hawaiian Humane Society.

Certificates range in price from $20 for families on government assistance to $75 for a female dog.  Those with Animal Care Foundation certificates can either coordinate an appointment with Animal Care Foundation in Hawaii Kai or may request a refund from any satellite city hall.
