MAYOR’S STATEMENT ON PASSING OF TOM GILL

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 -- Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann today made the following statement regarding the death of Tom Gill:

“We’ve lost a legend in island politics.  Tom Gill was a seminal figure in Hawaii’s history, a man whose intellect and leadership helped catalyze the emergence of the Democratic Party and shaped the growth of our state.

“He was an inspirational and influential man who will no doubt occupy an enduring role in the annals of the history of politics, government, labor, and so many important causes over the past half-century.”
