The City’s Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Plant lost power momentarily this afternoon to its ultraviolet disinfection unit sending treated but not disinfected wastewater into the Wahiawa Reservoir.

The UV unit went down at 1:54 p.m. and was back up operational at 2:04 p.m. (15 minutes).  The facility was aligned to its emergency power because of meteorological conditions and utility power outage risk affecting Oahu.

The plant discharged 22,935 gallons of tertiary treated effluent without disinfection into the Wahiawa Reservoir through its outfall.

The City notified the state Department of Health.  Warning signs are posted in the effected areas and DOH waived water sampling at Wahiawa Reservoir because of turbidity.
