CITY AWARDS TWO MORE SEWER PROJECTS

(Thursday, July 15, 2010) – Mayor Mufi Hannemann announced today the City has awarded two more sewer projects – manhole rehabilitation on Nimitz and Iwilei along with sewer work in Foster Village.

“We continue to invest heavily in repairing our sewer collection system and wastewater treatment plants in keeping with our capital improvement priorities,” Hannemann said.  “The money we collect in sewer fees goes exclusively to these projects.  Moreover, the work we do today will ensure that future generations will not have to face the same problems as we have.”

            MIRA Image Construction was the low bidder on both projects.  MIRA bid $299,000 to rehabilitate 10 manholes along Nimitz and Iwilei, which will take about 12 months to complete once work begins.

            MIRA came in at $695,699 on sewer work in Foster Village.  The scope of that project consists of open-cut construction on 223-linear feet of 8-inch diameter PVC pipe and 564-linear feet of 10-inch diameter PVC pipe.  Additionally, the job entails reconstructing or rehabilitating 16 manholes.  This project is also estimated to take one year to complete.
