Statement from Mayor Hannemann who learned of the news

about the newspapers this evening in Washington

            “The press is a vital part of our community and Honolulu has long been well served by two major dailies and alternative voices. The economy, however, has not been kind to the newspaper business.  Many papers all across the country have had to close their doors.  It’s a sign of the times and it shows no one is immune.

We hope for the best for all of those involved for whatever the end result of this purchase agreement may be.”
