Palama Adopt-A-Block/Stream Cleanup February 20

(Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010) – The Department of Environmental Services’ Storm Water Quality Branch is conducting an Adopt-A-Block cleanup Saturday, February 20, in Palama.

            The cleanup runs from 8:30-11 a.m. covering Pua Lane, Kanoa and Banyan streets, Akepo Lane, Sumner areas, Kapalama Stream (adjacent to HCC) and Iwilei.

            ENV – partnering with numerous agencies, businesses, churches and public officials – will provide supplies.  Volunteers sign a release form when checking in at the tent on the corner of Kanoa and Banyan.  Volunteers should bring water, wear a hat, old shoes, sunscreen and dress to get dirty.

            The event creates awareness of non-point source pollution and water quality issues; provides information on protecting our waters to specific audiences; encourages partnerships between citizens and local government; and motivates positive behavioral change to keep streams healthy.
