Sirens to be tested today

(Thurs., March 4, 2010) --- The City Departments of Emergency Management and Facility Maintenance in conjunction with Hawaii State Civil Defense will be testing outdoor siren warning systems in the following areas on Oahu today from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM.  

·        Aikahi Park

·        Ahupua'a o Kahana State Park

·        Castle High School

·        Puiki Street at Waialua Beach Road

·        Swanzy Beach Park

The tests are being conducted to ensure that these sirens are operating at full power and providing optimal range.   

Residents and businesses in the surrounding communities may hear several 20-second siren soundings during the testing periods. 

Hawaii State Civil Defense funds the purchase and installation of these sirens.  Once installed they are released to the City for monthly testing and emergency activation.
