WASTEWATER OVERFLOW IN PALOLO

(Tuesday, May 11, 2010) – Crews from the city's Department of Environmental Services responded to a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) last night in Palolo.

         The call came in at 10 p.m.  ENV arrived at 10:45 p.m. and secured the site at 11:20 p.m.

         Grease clogged an 8-inch vitrified clay pipe causing a manhole fronting 1830 9^th Avenue in Palolo causing 1,200 gallons of raw wastewater out a manhole.  Approximately, 700 gallons made its way to a storm drain leading to Palolo Stream. 

         ENV notified the state Department of Health.  The affected area was cleaned, disinfected and deodorized.  Warning signs are posted and water sampling is underway.
