ROAD WORK WEEKLY REPORT

Scheduled road work for the week beginning February 7, 2010, for the Department of Design construction, Civil Division (Construction Management Branch), and Wastewater Division (Construction Management Branch) is listed below.  Road work is normally done between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM unless otherwise noted.

EWA

Ewa Villages Revitalization Project – Area “D” Drainage Improvements – Near Kapolei Parkway/Park Row/O.R.&L Railroad:  Installation of an 8’ x 6’ box drain and connection to existing 10’x 8’ box drain.

HALAWA

Aliipoe Ditch Reconstruction – Halawa Heights, Lalawai Drive and Kahema Place area:  Demolish, remove and reconstruct existing concrete drainage ditch.  Construct maintenance access ramp and driveway.  Install storm drain manholes, drain inlets, trench drain, and 18” drain pipes.  Install new chain link fence.

Rehabilitation of Secondary Streets at Pearl City – Ulune Street (Kahuapaani Street to Kulawea Street), Aiealani Place (Halawa Heights Road to end), Fernridge Place (Halawa Heights Road to end), Halawa Heights Road (Fernridge Place to Mauka end), Hele Mauna Place (Halawa Heights Road to end), Kaimakani Street (Moanalua Road to Ulune Street), Palaialii Place (Halawa Heights Road to end), and Palaialii Way (Palaialii Place to end):  Cold planing, reconstructing, and resurfacing pavement.  Reconstructing base at bus stops.  Adjusting street monuments, utility manhole frames and covers, installing pavement markings, reconstructing existing asphalt concrete berms with drainage openings.

Localized Rehabilitation of Streets, Phase 4, Pearl City, Newtown, Royal Summit,  Pacific Palisades, Pearlridge, Aiea, Aiea Heights, Halawa Heights, and Halawa Valley.  The work includes: cold planing, resurfacing of asphalt concrete pavements, reconstruction of failed pavement areas; adjustment of manhole frame and covers, street survey frame and covers, installation of pavement markings; locating with GPS survey equipment manholes, valve boxes, monuments, etc.

HAWAII KAI

Reconstruction of Concrete Sidewalks, Kawaihae Street Area, Hawaii Kai:  Work includes removal and reconstruction of damaged concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter areas; installing root barriers where required, and adjustment of utility boxes to new sidewalk grades, and other incidental related work.

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2006 – Koamano Rd./Lunalilo Home Rd., Kalanipuu St./Lunalilo Home Rd., Waioli St./Hawaii Kai Dr., Hawaii Kai Dr./Lunalilo Home Rd.:  Construction of new curb

ramps, sidewalks and A.C. transition.  Installation of pedestrian push buttons, traffic signal pull boxes and vehicle detector loops.  Installation of pavement striping, markings and markers.

HONOLULU

Rehabilitation of Alewa Drive from Wyllie Street to Hoomaikai Street: Work includes removal of existing asphalt concrete and Portland cement concrete pavements, roadway reconstruction with asphalt concrete pavement, reconstruction of existing asphalt concrete berms and concrete gutters, adjustment of utility manhole frames and covers, and installation of pavement markings, and other incidental related work.

Amelia Street Relief Sewer – Amelia Street and adjoining School Street:  Installation of a new 16” sewer line underground along Amelia Street and portion of School Street at Amelia Street

Iolani Avenue Retaining Wall:  Construction of new CRM fence wall and installation of soil nail tie backs and reinforced shotecrete facing on retaining wall at 625 Iolani Avenue fronting Dole Community Garden. Restore A.C. sidewalk fronting new CRM wall.  Remove existing trees and re-plant new trees in Dole Community Garden.

Kalihi Nuuanu Area Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 1A and 1C:  New sewer line and manhole installation on Mokauea Street, Kalani Street and Kino Street.  Lane closures Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.            (Estimated completion date, March 2010)

Kalihi Nuuanu Area Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 1B:  New sewer line and manhole installation on Kopke Street.  Kopke Street and Gulick Ave.  Lane Closures Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Kalihi Nuuanu Area Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 1D:  New sewer line and manhole installation on Captain Cook and  Lolena Street.  Lane Closures Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Kalihi Nuuanu Area Sewer Rehabilitation Phase 1G:  New sewer line and manhole installation on Kuakini Street (between Nuuanu Avenue and Pali Highway) is ongoing.  Lane closures Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Kuliouou Sewer Rehabilitation:  Installation of cured in place pipe (CIPP), manhole rehabilitation, lateral rehabilitation, and some new installation of sewer lines.  CIPP installation work at Summer Street and May Way.

Reconstruction of Lusitana Street – From Pauoa Avenue to Iolani Avenue  The work includes the reconstruction and resurfacing of the above street; construction of concrete bus landings; curb ramps and associated traffic signal improvements; reconstruction of curbs, gutters and driveways; installation of pavement markings, adjustment of utility covers to grade; tree trimming and root pruning.

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2006 – Mapu Ln./Liliha St., University Ave./S. King St., Kaimuki Ave. Mid Block: Construction of new curb ramps, sidewalks and A.C. transition.  Installation of pedestrian push buttons and traffic signal pull boxes.  Installation of pavement striping, markings and markers.

Mapunapuna Industrial Subdivision Phase One of Tidal Flooding Remediation Program.  Remove existing flap gates and install new check valves at outlet pipes in State channel fronting Kam Highway. Construct new DMH upstream of new check valves. Re-grade swale and adjust DI to provide positive drainage into existing drain system. Upgrade concrete wall at outlet pipes at State channel. Remove debris and sediment from existing storm drains and channel area. Dewater State channel and install temporary dewatering dams.  At the intersection of Ahua Street and Awaawaloa Street, abandon existing storm drain on Ahua Street and install new storm drain MH on upstream end of abandoned pipe.

Seismic Retrofit of City Bridges at Various Locations, FY 08 – Nehoa Street Bridge between Makiki St. and Anapuni St., and Lusitana Street Bridge between Ladd Ln. and Andrews Ln.:  Installation of concrete and steel shear keys.  Repair concrete spalls and cracks.  Construction of concrete back wall.

            (Estimated completion date, August 2010)

Localized Rehabilitation of Streets, Phase 3, Nuuanu (Dowsett Highlands), Pacific Heights, Pauoa Valley, Moanalua Valley to west of Fort Shafter, Salt Lake towards Foster Village.  The work includes: cold planing, resurfacing of asphalt concrete pavements, reconstruction of failed pavement areas; adjustment of manhole frame and covers, street survey frame and covers, installation of pavement markings; locating with GPS survey equipment manholes, valve boxes, monuments, etc.

Peterson Lane and Pua Lane Sewer Rehabilitation:  New sewer line and manhole installation on King Street (between Dillingham Blvd. and Peterson Lane), Pua Lane and Peterson Lane.  Sewerwork is ongoing on Pua Lane.  Repaving of King, Peterson and Pua lane to follow after sewer work is complete.  Pua Lane – One lane in mauka bound direction will be closed Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2008 (C) – Queen Emma Street (St. Andrew’s Priory Church Driveway), and Maunalei Avenue (Driveway between Pokole Street and Makapuu Avenue):  Construction of new curb ramps, sidewalks and A.C. transition.  Installation of pavement striping, markings and markers.

Saint Louis Heights Sewer Rehabilitation:  Installation of cured in place pipe (CIPP), manhole rehabilitation, and lateral rehabilitation throughout Saint Louis Heights.  The contractor will also install new sewer lines via pipe bursting at 3 locations along Saint Louis Drive and one easement location between Saint Louis Drive and Frank Street.

            (Estimated completion date, January 2010)

Sewer rehabilitation on various streets on Wilhelmina Rise.  Installation of cured in place pipe (CIPP), lateral rehailitation, and replacement of sewer lines by open trench.

KAILUA

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 46 – Kailua Road (Hamakua Bridge to Kuulei Road); and Kuulei Road (Kailua Road to Kainalu Drive):  Reconstruct curbs, gutters, sidewalks and roadway pavement; construct new curb ramps and concrete bus pads; resurface roadway, reinstall signage, replace vehicle detector loops and install permanent pavement markings.

Kalaheo Avenue/Mokapu Road/Aikahi Loop Sewer Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 63 – Kuukama Street (Kalaheo Ave. to End), Kuuala Street (Kuukama St. to end), Kuumele Place, Kuuhale Street (Kuuala St. to Kainalu Dr.), Kuuniu Street ( Kalaheo Ave. to Kuuala St.), Kuupua Street (Kuuala St. to Kainalu Dr.) and Kuuhoa Place.  Project substantially completed. Contractor addressing punchlist items.

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2006 – Lunaai Pl./Lunaai St., Lunaanela St./Lunaai St., Lunaanela St./Lunaanela St., Lunahelu St,/Lunaanela St., Lunaai St./Lunahelu St.:  Construction of new curb ramps, sidewalks and A.C. transition.  Installation of pavement striping, markings and markers.

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 52 – Keolu Drive (Kalanianaole Highway to Akahai Street); Keolu Drive (Akaakaawa Street to Wanaao Road):  Cold planing; resurfacing and reconstruction of asphalt concrete pavements (ACP); adjustment of utility manhole frames and covers; installation of pavement markings and vehicle loop detectors; reconstruction of existing concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and Driveways; reconstruction of concrete catch basins; and construction of concrete and asphaltic concrete bus pads.

Wanaao Road/Keolu Drive Reconstructed Sewer:  Installation of new sewer line along Wanaao Road between Hahani Street and Aoloa Road.

KANEOHE

Emergency Landslide Remediation Adjacent to Burger King Kaneohe.  Grubb and grade the slope at the corner of Likelike Highway and Kamehameha Highway and constructed a two (2) tier retaining wall with segmental concrete blocks.  The work includes restoration of the access road, Burger Kings parking lot and landscape.

Duncan Drive – Puahuula Place Relief Drain  Construction of a relief drainage system, removing existing drainage system and installing larger drain lines, three new inlets, a trench drain and new storm drain manholes.

Kaneohe Bay Drive Trunk Sewer Reconstruction:  Installation of new sewer lines, new manholes, and cured in place pipe (CIPP).  Work will occur on Kaneohe Bay Drive between Mokapu Road and Kuono Place, Kaimalu Place and Way, Ikeanani Drive, and Kuakoa Place.

            (Estimated completion date December 2010)

Lilipuna Road Storm Drainage Improvements:  Demolish and remove existing RCP pipe, grated inlet and CRM outlet.  Install new 24” RCP pipe, construct new inlet and outlet structures, construct new CRM retaining wall, and restore A.C. pavement.

Extension of Kapolei Parkway, Phase 8B (North-South Road to Renton Road):  One-year landscape maintenance period for street trees and grassing in progress.

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 50 – Kalawao Place (Kalawao St to end), Kalawao Street (Kahaloa Drive to private road), Kalehua Street (Kahaloa Dr to end), Kaloaluiki Street ( Lowrey Ave to Kalawao St), Kanu Street (Lowery Ave to Loi St), Loi Street (East Manoa Rd to Woodlawn Dr), Kahawai Street (Lowrey Ave to Huapala St), Woodlawn Drive (Lowrey Ave to Kahaloa St), Lowrey Avenue (Woodlawn Dr to Kalawao St), Kaaipu Avenue (Oahu Ave to end), Loomis Street (Mauka end to Makai end), Hiehie Street (Kaloaluiki St to end) and Vista Place (Lowrey Ave to end):  Work includes  reconstruction and resurfacing of the above roadways; reconstruction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways; tree removal, pruning and trimming; installation of pavement markings.

PEARL CITY

Rehabilitation of Secondary Streets at Pearl City – Hoolaulea Street below Moanalua Road  (Waimano Home Road to Hoomoe Road), Nanakai Place (Nanakai Street to end), Nanakai Street (Waimano Home Road to Hoomalu Street), Puu Kipa Street ( Nanakai Street to Nanakai Street):  Cold planing, reconstructing, and resurfacing pavement.  Reconstructing base at bus stops.  Adjusting street monuments, utility manhole frames and covers, installing pavement markings, reconstructing existing asphalt concrete berms with drainage openings.

Guardrail Improvements – FY2006 Phase II  Site C:  Komo Mai Drive – between Hoolaulea and Hoohulu Street:  Replace planter with new concrete sidewalk; install object markers; install standard metal guarail post & spacers.

Manana Infrastructure Improvements, Phase VI – Connector Road (Kuala Street to Kuahaka Street)  Construct 60-foot wide roadway from Kuala Street to Kuahaka Street. The work includes, vector control; clearing, grubbing and grading; installation of new storm drain, Heco, Hawaiian Telcom, street light and traffic signal systems; concrete slab protection for existing sewer and water lines; grade adjustments in private lots; new noise and retaining walls, chain link fence and gates: reconstruction of existing drain, water and sewer MHs and valves to new finish grade; installation of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, curb ramps and sidewalk culverts; installation of irrigation system and landscape improvements; tree removal and pruning in private lots; road paving; pavement markings and markers and street signs.

Bridge Rehabilitation At Various Locations  Moanalua Road Bridge Over Waimalu Stream (Bridge No. 910)  Partial demolition and removal of existing curbs, gutters and sidewalks on bridge deck. Reconstruct curbs, gutters, sidewalk and A.C. pavement. Repair spalled, delaminated and hollow sounding areas in bridge soffit, abutments and pier. Repair bridge parapet, metal railing and expansion and cold joints.

Rehabilitation of Secondary Streets at Pearl City – Kaonohi Street ( Kaonohi Place to entire loop), and Kaonohi Street (Kamehameha Highway to Moanalua Road):  Cold planing, reconstructing, and resurfacing pavement.  Reconstructing base at bus stops.  Adjusting street monuments, utility manhole frames and covers, installing pavement markings, reconstructing existing asphalt concrete berms with drainage openings.

SALT LAKE

Guardail Improvements – FY2006 Phase II.  Site B:  Waialua Beach Road – 66-080 Waialua Beach Road to Kiikii Stream:  Remove existing guardrails & concrete posts; provide archaeological monitoring; install object markers; install standard metal guardrail, post & spacers.

WAHIAWA

Curb Ramps at Various Locations, FY 2006 – Glen Ave./Kolekole Dr., Crest Ave./Glen Ave.:  Construction of new curb ramps, sidewalks and A.C. transition.  Installation of pavement striping, markings and markers.

WAIKIKI

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 62 – Ala Wai Boulevard between Kanekapolei Street and Kalakaua Avenue:  Reconstruct identified curbs, gutters, driveways and asphalt roadway.  Resurface asphalt roadways; install permanent pavement markings; restore vehicle loop detectors and raise manhole and valve covers to grade.  Anticipated start date of September 28, 2009; preliminary surveying to start August 19, 2009

Emergency Repairs to Waipahu Street Arch Bridge Over Waikele Stream (Bridge No. 961)

GRP at south-west anchor wall, a.c pavement, install guardrails, install signage.

Waipahu Street Retaining Wall Repair & 16th Avenue Boulder Basin Dam Wall Reconstruction:  Demolish and rebuild retaining wall, curb ramp, and portion of sidewalk adjacent to Waipahu Elementary School.  Awaiting staging area approval from DPR.  Tentative start of construction date set for October 23, 2009.

Rehabilitation of Paiwa Street (Farrington Highway to Waipahu Street), Waipahu Street (Hianakiu Street to Kaupu Place), Makoa Street (Puia Street to end to end), Puia Street (Anonui Street to Eleu Street, and Heahea Street to deadend):  Cold planing, reconstructing, and resurfacing pavement.  Reconstructing base at bus stops.  Adjusting street monuments, utility manhole frames and covers, installing pavement markings, reconstructing existing asphalt concrete berms with drainage openings.
