NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT KAPOLEI PARKWAY AND KEAUNUI DRIVE

(Fri., Dec. 24, 2010) --The City and County of Honolulu will begin operation of a new traffic signal on Monday, December 27, 2010, at the intersections of Kapolei Parkway and Keaunui Drive in Ewa Gentry Makai.

“This traffic signal is an example of the City’s efforts to improve pedestrian safety at heavily-traveled intersections, and will be especially important once the new Ewa Middle School opens next year,” said Mayor Peter Carlisle.  “Signals like these combined with pedestrian countdown signals, restriping, continuing public education and police enforcement will make our streets that much safer for everyone.”

The City Department of Transportation Services is currently flashing the new signals to warn motorists and pedestrians of the upcoming activation.  The signals go “live” on Monday, December 27, 2010.
