TRASH-SHIPPING FIRM COMPLIES WITH CITY DEMAND FOR DOCUMENTS
(Fri., July 16, 2010)—Mayor Mufi Hannemann today said the company that is seeking to ship some of Honolulu’s municipal solid waste to a mainland disposal facility has provided to the city all operational documents, as required.
Hannemann had indicated yesterday that the company, Hawaiian Waste Systems, must provide the information by today or risk cancellation of its contract with the city.
The company provided operational documents related to its plans to ship, unload and dispose of such waste, which it has accepted here since September 2009.
Because the company complied with the city’s requirements today, the city has allowed the company to proceed with its plan to obtain other necessary approvals from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and begin shipping waste in approximately two weeks.
