CITY SEEKS PARTNERS FOR YOUTH SUMMER JOBS PROGRAM
(Friday, May 14, 2010)—The Department of Community Services is inviting government and nonprofit agencies to participate as work sites in the 2010 Summer Work Opportunity Program to provide short-term work experience training for young people, ages 14 to 23 from June 14, 2010 to September 17, 2010.
“It’s very important to provide employment opportunities for our young people, so they can gain valuable experience that will help them become hard-working, responsible adults,” Mayor Mufi Hannemann said. “I encourage employers to step up and participate, and I urge young people from low and moderate income families to apply immediately, as these placements are offered at a first come, first served basis.”
The City plans to create summer jobs for approximately 400 youth and young adults whose family income is below 300 percent of the federal poverty level, or who are receiving public assistance, supplemental nutrition assistance, free or reduced lunch, or who are attending Title I schools. Participants will be paid $8.00 an hour up to 30 hours a week.
