TRAFFIC ADVISORY: LANE CLOSURES FOR RAIL TRANSIT WORK IN WEST OAHU

(Thurs., April 21, 2011)—The City and County of Honolulu advises motorists of lane closures related to utility relocation work for the Honolulu Rail Transit Project along the first section of the rail transit route in West Oahu beginning Monday, April 25.

            Relocation of utility lines along Farrington Highway near Waipahu High School will require the closure of one lane along Farrington Highway from Waipahu Depot Road to the Kamehameha Highway Interchange in either direction Mondays through Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. for the next seven weeks.

            Contractor Kiewit Infrastructure West Company is conducting the utility work, which will include relocation of trees, storm drains, water, gas, sewer, phone and electrical lines along the initial 6.5-mile section of the rail transit route between East Kapolei and Pearl City.

            Motorists using Farrington Highway are advised to drive with caution, anticipate possible traffic delays and to take alternate routes when possible. The public will be notified in advance of any detours and change of access via traffic control signs. Special duty police officers will be used when needed to direct traffic at affected intersections.
