WATER CONSERVATION URGED FROM

RED HILL TO PEARL CITY

(Mon., Feb. 7, 2011) The City is asking all residents and businesses from Red Hill to Pearl City to conserve water through tomorrow (Tues., Feb. 8, 2011) to facilitate repairs to two damaged pressurized sewer pipes, called force mains.

Water users are asked to not excessively use toilets, sinks, dishwashers, washing machines and showers. Several large industrial water users have been notified.

A repair crew will be working through tonight and tomorrow morning to place one of the two Pearl City Sewage Pump Station force mains back into service. One force main broke Friday and the other Saturday. City crews are working around the clock to extract wastewater upstream of the breaks and redirect it to the Waipahu Sewage Pump Station.

The City has notified the state Department of Health and the U.S. Navy of the situation.  Warning signs are in place, and the public is advised to stay out of the canal near the Leeward Community College bike path and Middle Loch.
