(Friday, November 30, 2012) The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) will present its proposed changes to the Oahu General Plan at community meetings in December and January.


            The first meeting will be on Tuesday, December 4, from 6-8 p.m. in McKinley High Schools Hirata Hall. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. The second meeting is set for Thursday, December 6, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Mililani Middle School Cafeteria. Registration begins at 6 p.m. A third meeting in Windward Oahu will be held on Monday, January 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Castle High School Cafeteria. Registration begins at 6 p.m.


            The General Plan is a comprehensive statement of objectives and policies that sets forth the long-range desires of Oahus residents, and the strategies to achieve them. The Public Review Draft updates objectives and policies related to Oahus overall growth, the economy, affordable housing, and sustainability.


            DPP and consultant Helber Hastert & Fee will provide an overview of the Public Review Draft Plan and field questions and comments at these community meetings. The public will have additional opportunities to comment on the plan at public hearings to be held by the Honolulu Planning Commission and Honolulu City Council. The hearings are expected to be held later next year.
