TRAFFIC ADVISORY: LANE CLOSURES

FOR HONOLULU RAIL TRANSIT PROJECT

 

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) wants to inform drivers of lane closures next week related to design work for the Honolulu rail transit project. Motorists are advised of work along the 20-mile rail route from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center that will require lane closures during non-peak traffic hours.

 

For the safety of both the work crews and motorists, the public is advised to proceed with caution through these areas. Drivers should anticipate possible traffic delays or use alternate routes during work hours, and provide a safe distance between themselves and the workers and equipment.

 

West Oahu/Farrington Highway Section (East Kapolei toWaipahu)

Daytime lane closures will take place from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the following locations:

 

  • Maintenance crews will work along various sections of Farrington Highway in Waipahu. During the work, Kiewit vehicles may be temporarily parked in the highway lanes, causing a slight slowdown in traffic flow.

 Nighttime east and westbound lane closures along Farrington Highway will take place from Sunday, September 8 to Thursday, September 12 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. at the following locations for utility location work:

 

  • Between Old FortWeaver Road and Leokane Street
  • Between Kahualii Street and the H-1 FreewayWaipahu On-Ramp near Waipahu High School

One lane in each direction of Farrington Highway will remain open at all times during the work.

 

Kamehameha Highway Section (Pearl City to Aloha Stadium)

Daytime closures will take place from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the following location for exploratory work:

  • Inside lane of the H-1/Moanalua Freeway On-Ramp near Aloha Stadium 

On Monday, September 9, the H-1/Moanalua Freeway On-Ramp near Aloha Stadium and Salt Lake Boulevard will be closed overnight from10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 9. During the closure,motorists are advised to use other nearby freeway on-ramps at either the H-1 Halawa Interchange or the Moanalua Freeway On-Ramp off Aiea Access Road.

 

Airport Section (Aloha Stadiumto Kalihi)

Daytime lane closures will take place from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the following locations in the east-bound direction:

 

  • The left lane of Kamehameha Highway near Makai Frontage Road
  • The right lane of Kamehameha Highway near the H-1 Freeway off-ramp approaching Makai Frontage Road
  • The right lane of Aolele Street (at Honolulu International Airport) approaching the H-1 Freeway on-ramps and Paiea Street
  • The right lane of Ualena Street between Ohohia Street and Lagoon Drive
  • The left lane of Kamehameha Highway between Middle Street and Laumaka Street

Daytime lane closures will take place from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the west-bound direction:

 

  • The right lane of Kamehameha Highway approaching Halawa Drive

City Center Section (Kalihi to Ala Moana Center)

No work scheduled next week in the City Center area.
