ENV RESPONDS TO SSO IN MAKIKI

KAPOLEI – The City’s Department of Environmental Services responded today to a sanitary sewer overflow at 1621 Anapuni Street in Makiki.

The call came in at 7:06 a.m.  An ENV crew arrived at 8:02 a.m. and secured the site at 9:00 a.m.

An 8-inch vitrified clay pipe broke discharging an estimated 4,500 gallons of untreated wastewater of which 100 gallons dissipated into the ground and 4,400 entered a concrete channel eventually leading to Ala Wai Canal.

ENV notified the state Department of Health.  ENV cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the affected area.  Warning signs are being posted and water sampling is underway.
