July is Parks and Recreation Month in the City and County of Honolulu

 

Manoa ? Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation?s official Parks and Recreation Month.

 

Today, Mayor Kirk Caldwell proclaimed July 2013 as Parks and Recreation Month in the City and County of Honolulu and issued the proclamation to the 400 children enjoying the Manoa District Park Summer Fun program.

 

The Mayor called upon residents and visitors to recognize the importance of our community?s parks and recreation facilities and to utilize the places that bring Honolulu and the island of Oahu a higher quality of life, safer places to play, and healthy alternatives through recreational programming for all.

 

Our local parks and recreation people are the ones who pull together the concerts and special events in the park that we enjoy every week. They host summer celebrations and Christmas tree lightings. They maintain our parks and create special activities for everyone from preschoolers to seniors.

 

The Mayor encouraged the public to get out and celebrate July with help from our local Parks and Recreation Department.  Listed below are free activities happening in our public parks:
