Mayor to join Lions Clubs volunteers to patch Waikiki sidewalks

Honolulu − On Saturday, October 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Lions Clubs of Hawaii will be working together with Mayor Kirk Caldwell and the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) to patch and repair uneven sidewalks in Waikiki.

The work will involve volunteers from various Lions Clubs around the island supervised by a crew from DFM’s Division of Road Maintenance. The volunteers will patch cracks and deteriorated sidewalks on Kuhio Avenue between Royal Hawaiian Avenue and Kaiulani Avenue

“I’d like to thank the Lions Clubs of Hawaii volunteers for helping to improve pedestrian safety on some of the busiest sidewalks on Oahu,” Mayor Caldwell said.  “Their hard work and aloha are a prime example of what concerned citizens can do to help improve our island home.”

By patching uneven and deteriorated sidewalks, trip hazards will be mitigated and pedestrians will enjoy a safer travelway.  The Lions Clubs of Hawaii plans to schedule several sidewalk patching events over the next several months at various locations island-wide.

Note to editors: Mayor Caldwell is expected on site from approximately 11 a.m. to noon.
