ROOTS CAUSE SECOND SSO IN KALIHI
(Sat., Jan. 26, 2013) – The City’s Department of Environmental Services was cleaning out a 12-inch sewer pipe when roots caused a second sanitary sewer overflow at 1817 Alu Street Saturday evening, causing 1,500 gallons of raw wastewater out a manhole and into Kalihi Stream.
The second spill began at 4:05 p.m. and was released at 5:05 p.m.
ENV notified the state Department of Health. ENV cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the area. Warning signs are posted and water sampling is underway. The public is advised to stay out of the affected waterway until warning signs have been taken down.
